I love it when my house smells good — when we’re cooking, or if I have candles burning. I love that fresh laundry smell or fresh ground coffee smell. #allthesmells … but not all at once, obviously.
Recently I’ve been trying to avoid Fabreeze-type air fresheners and traditional candles because of all the chemicals. I don’t want to breathe those toxins just to have a “fresh” smelling house, so I have tried out some homemade fragrance ideas I saw on Pinterest…and this one is amazing. This DIY Home Fragrance is natural and smells amazing!
It’s super simple! All you need is:
- Lemon
- Rosemary
- Vanilla Extract
- or Lavendar essential oil is really nice too.
I really love this idea for a cute house warming gift so I added a cute label to a mason jar for easy gifting.
Simply combine the Rosemary, Vanilla, and Lemon slices with purified water into a jar for gifting. That’s all there is to it. Your friends and family will love it — all they need to do is empty the contents into a pot and heat to release this amazing fragrance. I love the herby smell of the rosemary with the sweet vanilla and tangy citrus; this scent is perfect for fall.
If you aren’t giving it as a gift, you can instead heat up your fragrance mixture in a small pot at home. Make sure to keep an eye on it as the liquid will evaporate and you don’t want to burn your lemons & rosemary.
I brought my fragrance to a boil and then reduced to a simmer. I love how the scent fills my entire house. I’ll be trying some other scents down the road, but so far, I’m in love!
