The LUSH Christmas stuff is so pretty this year. I love everything so much so I wanted to try to re-create some of the Christmas products. This is a DIY Candy Mountain Bubble Bar recipe. Mine didn’t turn out nearly as nice as the LUSH one, but it smells amazing and I had a lot of fun making it.
Here’s everything you’ll need to make this sugary sweet bubble bar:
- 1 cup SLSA
- 1 cup baking soda
- 1/3 cup corn starch
- 1/3 cup cream of tartar
- 1/3 cup glycerine
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or other oil — I used Josie Maran Argan Oil
- 1 tbsp. water
- Vanilla Oil (a few splashes)
- Food coloring
- parchment paper
- rolling pin
- mixing bowls
- surgical mask
- gloves
- Disco Dust
To begin, put on your surgical mask and sift all of the dry ingredients together in a large mixing bowl. The SLSA is very fine and powdery; clouds of powder will come wafting up in your face and can cause coughing. Be sure to do this in a well-ventilated room. Then, measure out all of your wet ingredients and combine in a separate bowl. For the vanilla oil, I used 3-5 strong shakes into a bowl. I really wanted a sweet, sugary fragrance and strong just like walking into a LUSH.
Put on your gloves and combine the wet and dry ingredients. The texture is weird and kind of crumbly but keep mixing. It will stick together when pressed firmly together.
With the Candy Mountain bubble bar, I split up my dough in half and added my pink coloring to one half & left the other half white. This time I used a mica color powder which was a little difficult to work with, and the color pay off wasn’t as good as I get with a gel food coloring.
Next, lay out some parchment paper and roll out the pink bubble bar color to be the outer layer of the bubble bar. I chose to have the pink color be the outside of my bubble bar. Layer on the white color of bubble bar on top of the pink. This is where I had some trouble — as I was twisting my bubble bar into a cone/Candy Mountain shape, it crumbled and the colors mixed together. Don’t let this happen to you by using another piece of parchment paper to help you form the shape. Don’t just rely on your hands; the second piece of parchment paper will hold it all together.
Once your Candy Mountain is mountain-shaped, add some shimmer or disco dust to get the full LUSH effect.
Even though I had a difficult time with this bubble bar, it smells so good; it’s one of my favorites. Let the bubble bar dry for between 24 and 72 hours until it’s hardened. Once it’s dry, crumble under your hot running bath water for tons of vanilla-scented bubbles!
