The Snowie bubble bar is so cute with its red and blue lightning bolt design. Snowy has a grapefruit, citrus scent and makes silky smooth bubbles for your bath. Here’s another LUSH DIY since I love everything from the LUSH Christmas range so much. This is a DIY Snowie Bubble Bar recipe. My bubble bar didn’t turn out quite as cute as the original, but it smells amazing and it was super fun to make!
Here’s everything you’ll need to make DIY Snowie bubble bar:
- 1 cup SLSA
- 1 cup baking soda
- 1/3 cup corn starch
- 1/3 cup cream of tartar
- 1/3 cup glycerine
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or other oil
- 1 tbsp. water
- Grapefruit Oil & Lemon Oil
- Food coloring (red and blue)
- Cookie Cutter (optional)
- parchment paper
- mixing bowls
- surgical mask
- gloves
- rainbow disco dust (optional)
^ With this recipe, you should be able to make approximately 4-5 LUSH-sized Snowie bubble bars.
Start by putting your surgical mask on to sift all of the dry ingredients together. The SLSA is super powdery so you need to measure and pour it slowly so that clouds of powder don’t come wafting up in your face. Be sure to do this in a well-ventilated room. Then, measure out all of your wet ingredients and combine in a separate bowl. You’ll need to use 4-5 strong shakes of the grapefruit and lemon essential oils to get a strong LUSH-like fragrance.
Combine the wet and dry ingredients to create your bubble bar dough. Using gloves will help prevent the dough from sticking to your hands and keep the mixture clean in case you give your DIY Snowie to friends as a gift. Keep mixing the bubble bar dough for a while until the consistency is a crumbly, but will stick together when pressed firmly together.
The majority of this bubble bar will stay white, so just remove about a small fistful of dough to be colored for the eyes and lightning bolt. Separate half of that mixture and add blue food coloring to the one half and add red food coloring to the other half. You’ll only need a couple of drops of food coloring.
Once all of your colors are mixed, you’re ready to begin shaping your bubble bar — remember, you should be able to make 4-5 DIY Snowie bubble bars from this batch, so divide your dough accordingly. Lay out some parchment paper on a clean work surface. If you’re using a cookie cutter to get the snowman shape, this will be super easy — just fill up your bubble bar mixture into the cookie cutter and press firmly to pack everything together. Make sure you use a “simple” snowman shaped cookie cutter like this one, instead on one with a lot of extra “accessories” like a hat or broom. You may want to leave your bubble bar in the mold to harden before you remove it, but if you pressed firmly enough, you should be able to remove it gently from the mold without it crumbling.
If you don’t have a cookie cutter and you’ll be shaping your Snowie by hand like I did, get another piece of parchment paper to use to press your bubble bar into the desired shape. The parchment paper will help keep everything packed together.
Create small eye sockets for your bubble bar with a pencil point or similar and set your Snowie aside. Begin to shape out the lightning bolts and eyes with the red and blue bubble bar, using a knife to get the desired lightning bolt shape. Then, layer on the lightning bolt to your DIY Snowie’s body and add one of each of the colored eyes to your snowman’s head. Then, I added some rainbow disco dust to give it a little extra snow effect.
My snowy looks a little rough lol. But I still love it. I definitely will use the cookie cutter next time. This bright-scented bubble bar was super fun to make. Let the bubble bar dry for between 24 and 72 hours until it’s hardened. Once it’s dry, crumble under your hot running bath water for tons of bubbles!
