We recently went on vacation to Hawaii, and I wanted to make sure we were able to capture all those special moments on the go, at the beach, and even in the ocean. I did a lot of research and decided to purchase a GoPro Hero 5 Black. Here’s my full review/experience:

My GoPro Hero 5 Black Experience
I had always thought that GoPros were for the extreme sport action-adventure type. People who go skydiving or ride motocross, so I wasn’t’t really sure that I would get all the benefits from having a GoPro. But with our trip to Hawaii approaching, I really wanted a camera that I could take with me to explore the different waterfalls, or under water in the pool or the ocean.
I found the GoPro Hero 5 Black online and was really excited to see that it was waterproof right out of the box. You don’t need to buy any special housing or cases to take this little camera with you everywhere. Not only can this camera go under water, but it’s super tiny and easy to use. With a large 2″ touchscreen on the back, you can switch between modes easily (still images, videos, 4K, 1080p etc.).
I bought the GoPro, a memory card, and a small mount and I took it with us to Hawaii. The camera was super easy to use right out of the box — I just watched this set-up video on Youtube and was ready to go.
This camera was just what I was looking for for our trip, and really durable.
I took the GoPro with us to go snorkeling near black rock in Maui and we had so much fun. We saw so many sea turtles and fish up close, and I was able to capture it all on camera. Having the waterproof mount made it easy to hold and control the camera while we were in the water. The mount also has a wrist-strap which made me feel a lot better about keeping my investment safe.
GoPro App for iOS
From the GoPro app, you can view all your photos and videos. And you can download them right onto your phone. I found it really easy to use and sync to the wi-fi, and you can also make quick edits to your photos/videos.
The battery life on the GoPro was not the best. I did bring the charger with us and an extra battery so we didn’t have any issues, but with a lot of video, the battery died pretty fast. Definitely recommend getting a second battery if you think you’ll be recording a lot.
Otherwise, I love this camera and am really glad we had it to take on our trip. It was super portable and I was so happy with how all of the under water pictures and videos turned out.
