I had quite a few knitting projects planned this year. I knew it was a pretty ambitious list, but I was excited to work on so many fun projects. Now that the year is halfway through, I wanted to share my progress and some updates to the plan.
Knitting Project Progress
This Pengweeno was so much fun to knit for my niece. I loved getting to use my left over yarn to create something new. This was a fast knit, and most importantly, my niece loved it.
I started the year working on this Honeycomb Aran Sweater for my husband. I loved working my first cabled knit and learning to fix mistakes. I struggled a bit with the pattern so I created a little cheat sheet to help me out.
The Fantastitch was my first shawl and I loved every stitch. The pattern was so well-written and each section and color change made the progress more rewarding.
I wanted to make the Penguono with a few modifications to create my rainbow dream jacket. I had planned out little things I wanted to change and planned my colors, but it turned out even more beautiful than I thought. This was my favorite project so far this year.
The October Hat was a fun mini-project that I enjoyed grabbing on my way out. I could easily knit a few rows and pop it in my bag. This cabled beanie looks really nice and is a free pattern.
The Starflake Shawl is my second shawl and I really enjoyed working on it. The rows got pretty long at the end, but it went surprisingly fast. I used all left over yarns in this shawl; I love having yarn on hand to be able to knit whenever I want to start something new. It feels great getting to use every last scrap from a previous project.
On My Needles Now
I am currently working on a few projects. I’ve gotten a lot more comfortable with multiple projects at a time; I just switch between them whenever I want some variety.
These Perle Cottage Socks have been on my needles for a while now. I finished one sock using left over yarns and I love the cute cuff, but I don’t find myself reaching to knit these that often. I bought a little magnifying glass light to help me work the tiny stitch pattern, but I think I just prefer working with larger needles.
I started another Honeycomb Aran and I love the bright green color. This sweater is for me and I’m using the cheat sheets I made to help me; it’s going a lot more smoothly.
UPDATE: I finished my Shamrock Honeycomb Aran. It’s so beautiful; read more about my experience.
I’m working on the Hiberknitting Cowl and I love working different sections and colors. This cowl is knit in the round and then seamed together. I like this knit because it’s relaxing and repetitive

I wanted to try dyeing my own yarn this year, and I think it was a success. I posted How To Dye Yarn with Acid Dyes and I’m really happy with how my yarn turned out.
2021 Knitting Project Update
Now that we’re halfway through the year, I have shifted some priorities and added some new projects. Once I complete some current WIPs, I’m planning to work on:
Honey Clutch
This cute little zip-top bag is the perfect size to carry any essentials. I love little organizer pouches, and honeycomb brioche is my favorite stitch. I can’t wait to start this project.

Nightshift Shawl
This shawl looks like a relaxing, repetitive project. I think it’ll be a fun knit with the mosaic slip stitches and color changes. I see this pattern in the top few pages of Ravelry’s popular patterns all the time, so I’m looking forward to making one too.
Treelight Shawl
I was looking up shawls with brioche and this one caught my eye. It looks like it uses honeycomb brioche too! I think this will be a more interesting knit with the different textures and colors.
I mentioned my interest in these new patterns in my Newsletter, and I am really excited to start knitting them.
I decided to de-prioritize/remove all those socks I had in my queue. I still may knit the toe-up brioche socks, but I just don’t enjoy socks as much as I thought I would. I either need a little bit bigger needle (than US 1), or a more basic sock pattern for me to want to knit them.

Overall Thoughts
I’m so happy with my finished objects, and my progress on my other projects. Check out my Ravelry page for updates on everything I’m working on.
